Our Essential Oil Products
Nature
is rich in the whole spectrum of scents and fragrances. She
gives us the secrets of her power through the magic component
of essential oils, found in all plants and trees.
We
have a selection of the most commonly used plant oils. The oils we carry are 100% Pure Organic
Plant Essential Oils.
First,
organically-cultivated plants are used. Second, the method
of extraction is steam distillation. This gives a pure,
unadulterated oil - the essence of the plant itself. Third, no
additives or preservatives or any other substances are added
to the oil at any time during cultivation, extraction or
handling.
Therefore, these
oils contain the valuable, natural and pure components of the
respective plant which produce the characteristic actions.
We give here brief
descriptions of the plant essential oils we stock.
The effects
stated refer to the external use of each oil and when used correctly.
They are given for
info only and are not meant to be for therapeutic purposes. In
cases of medical conditions, please consult a health care
professional for advice.
Pure
essential oils need to be mixed with a base or carrier oil,
such as Sweet Almond Oil or Wheat Germ Oil, if used on the
skin. Stop use
at once if there is an adverse physical reaction to any
oil. Never use essential oils internally without the
advice of a trained healthcare professional.

Simple Ways Of Using Essential Oils
Bath. Place
about 5 to 10 drops of your favourite essential oil into the
hot bath water and mix the oil well into the water just before you
start. After a bath, mix a few drops of oil with skin lotion
and apply.
Handkerchief
inhaler. For colds or headaches, place one or two drops of
Eucalyptus or Tea Tree Oil onto a handkerchief and sniff
frequently throughout the day. Other suitable oils are
Lavender, Cajuput, Peppermint, Lemon, Geranium.
Steam inhaler.
To clear blocked noses and soothe sore throats, place a few
drops of Eucalyptus or Tea Tree Oil into a basin or bowl of hot water,
hold the head over the basin and breathe in the steam. Use a
towel held over
the head to contain the steam.
Simple air freshener.
Place several drops of your favourite oil onto a tissue or
cotton wool, place on a saucer, and leave in a room for the
aroma to circulate around.
Air freshener.
Place a few drops of an essential oil on the surface of the
water in the top of an aromatherapy burner, then light the
tea-light candle beneath it. Or put a few drops of an
essential oil onto the top surface of a thick, unscented candle, around
the wick but not in contact with it, before lighting it.
Air freshener
spray. Dissolve about 2 teaspoons of essential oil into
half cup of pure alcohol, mix the solution thoroughly with
half cup of water, and spray around the room.
Insect
repellant. Place a few drops of essential oil onto cotton wool or
tissue and leave exposed near windows and doors, or place in
the middle of a room. Effective oils are
Citronella, Lavender, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Eucalyptus, Lemon
and Rosemary.
Insect
repellant for the skin. Use any of the above oils and mix
well into a
small bottle of skin lotion, about 30 drops
oil to 100ml of lotion. Apply the lotion to the skin.
Massage.
Mix organic essential oil with a base or
carrier oil, about 10 drops essential oil to 50ml natural carrier oil,
blend thoroughly, and use for massaging the body.
Complexion
cream. Mix about 5 drops of an essential oil into a
teaspoon of skin cream, and apply to face, neck or hands. Oils
to use are Sandalwood, Neroli, Rose, Lavender, Geranium,
Lemon, Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, Cajuput, Myrrh, Frankincense.
Perfume oil or
cream. Mix 1 teaspoon of essential oil with about 3
teaspoons of a carrier oil, such as Jojoba Oil, or an
unscented skin cream. Add 10 drops of fixative, such as
Benzoin, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Vanilla, Myrrh, Musk or Vitamin
E, to make the scent last longer. Dab onto skin sparingly at
the pulse points.
Eau de toilette.
Mix 2 teaspoons of essential oil into 100ml of 80:20 ethanol
alcohol / distilled water. Or use undiluted strong vodka. Add
2 teaspoons of fixative, such as glycerine or a suitable oil,
place into a glass bottle and mix well. Allow to mature for 1
to 2 weeks before using.
Essential oils are
used in many areas of our daily lives. The most common uses
are for aromatherapy, beauty and skin care, massages, natural
pest control, household remedies, and in cooking for flavouring
of foods.
Natural
plant oils are volatile and delicate substances. They
deteriorate and oxidise fairly quickly. So they should be used
within about 6 months from the time of production.
It is important that essential oils are transported and
handled under the right conditions after manufacture, or the
shelf-life and potency may be very much reduced.
Buy only a small
quantity of an essential oil each time, so as to ensure you
are always using a fresh oil.
Keep all oils out
of sunlight or any bright light and well away from heat.
Otherwise, their effectiveness and life of potency will be
considerably affected.
Store all
essential oils in a
cool, dark place, such as in the refrigerator.
Keeping stocks of essential
oils in the refrigerator will extend their usability for
another several months. However, once taken out of the
refrigerator, let the unopened bottle warm to room temperature
before use, to prevent water moisture entering the oil.
Do not put
essential oils into plastic containers, as the oil will
interact with the plastic and will leach out unsafe synthetic
substances into itself.
Ensure that the
oil is not in contact with any plastic parts of the bottle,
such as the bottle cap or dropper, whilst in storage.
The bottle should
be kept tightly closed and the cap or lid put back on as soon as the
required amount is poured out.
Keep oils pure
during storage. Care should be taken to ensure that the oils
do not adulterate one another. Pour out each oil directly from
the bottle, or use a fresh, clean dropper or spoon to dispense
each oil. Or rinse the dropper or spoon well in vodka or
alcohol between the dispensing of each oil.
When mixing oils,
use only 2 or 3 different oils together. About 4 or 5 oils can
be mixed successfully if some of them are from the same
aromatic group. If they are all different or if using more
oils, skillful mixing is required to produce a pleasant scent.
As essential oils
are the pure, concentrated form of active components of
plants, care should be taken in its use. Do not apply the
essential oil directly to the skin, as that may cause an
adverse reaction.
Remember to always
mix very small amounts, about 1% to 3% by ratio, of the
essential oil with a base or carrier oil, or a suitable skin
lotion or cream, if you want to use it on the skin for
massage.
Suitable carrier
oils for massage are Sweet Almond Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Avocado
Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Hazelnut Oil, Olive Oil and Coconut
Oil.
Up to 5 drops of
an essential oil can be mixed into a teaspoon of skin cream
for applying to the skin of the face, neck or hands. Oils for
dry skins: Sandalwood, Rose, Neroli, Cedarwood Atlas. Oils for
normal skins: Lavender, Rose Geranium, Ylang Ylang, Clary
Sage. Oils for oily skins: Lemon, Cajuput, Peppermint,
Frankincense.
Perfumes and
colognes using essential oils require a fixative to enable the
scent to last. Oils which also act as fixatives are Benzoin,
Sandalwood, Frankincense, Myrrh, Orissa, Angelica, Balsam Of
Peru, Vetiver, Vanilla and Musk.
To make a perfume
oil, mix a small amount of essential oil/s with a carrier oil
in the ratio of about 30:70. Skin cream can be used instead of
a carrier oil. Add several drops of a fixative to enable the
scent to last. Apply small dabs to the skin.
It is best to
avoid ingesting essential oils and to use them only
externally when using them around the home.
Certain essential
oils can be used internally, but should be done only under the
supervision of a trained health care professional.
Mix dried herbs such as Lavender,
Rosemary, Thyme, Peppermint, Oregano and Citrus Peel in a container and
leave in the room uncovered to keep away insects and to
freshen the air.
Sprinkle a few
drops of essential oils onto cotton wool or tissue paper and
leave exposed to freshen the air or to keep away insects.
Suitable oils to use as insect repellant are Citronella,
Bergamot, Lemon, Cedarwood, Lavender, Eucalyptus and Rosemary.
Mix 2 teaspoons of
essential oil into 1/2 cup or 100ml of ethanol or strong vodka
and dissolve thoroughly. Add the mixture to 100ml of water in a spraying container and shake well to mix. Spray around
the room as an air freshener or insect repellant.
Mix organic
essential oils into a small bottle of skin lotion, about 20
drops oil to 100ml skin lotion, and mix thoroughly. Apply to
the skin as insect repellant.
